Obituary

Ishpeming – Charles V. "Chuck" Ricketts, age 56, of 411 Michigan St. Ishpeming passed away on Wednesday December 30, 2009 at the Emergency Room in Bell Hospital following an apparent heart attack.


Chuck was born May 13, 1953 in Chicago, IL. Chuck graduated from the High School in Deerfield, IL in 1971 and resided in the Chicago area until 1975 when he moved to Ishpeming. He worked for Cliffs Michigan Mining (C.C.I.) from 1975 until the present time, currently as a control panel operator in the pellet plant at the Tilden Mine. He had previously served in the Michigan National Guard.


Chuck was a spiritual man & faithful member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He and his wife taught pre-marriage classes for years at St. John's, and in recent years had taught the Engaged Encounter classes for the Marquette Catholic Diocese which prepared couples for marriage. Chuck and his wife were also active in the New Dawn Ministry, a support group for separated and divorced individuals. Recently Chuck completed a three year study in pastoral ministries from Loyola University, New Orleans, LA. He will lovingly be remembered as one who always put his family first.


Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Vicky (Murray) Ricketts of Ishpeming, eight children – Mary Smith of Gwinn, Susie (Ken) Haswell of Gladstone, Ann Dulany of Steubenville, OH, Matthew Ricketts of Ishpeming, Kimberly Ricketts of Ishpeming, Christopher Ricketts of Dudley, NC, Rebecca Ricketts of Ishpeming, and Michael Ricketts of Ishpeming, grandchildren – Heather, Dana, Cherish, Randy, Charlie, Angela, Brayden, Tori & Rachel, a sister Victoria (Tony) Lavi of Waukegan, IL, his birth mother Mary Jo Yearwood of TN, a half-brother Steve Yearwood of Sale Creek, TN, three half-sisters – Terri (Wayne) Miles of Bakewell, TN, Sue (Bobby) Levister Graysville, TN, and Diane (Tom) Swafford of Graysville, TN, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter Rachael, his parents Robert and Virginia Ricketts and a granddaughter Kathryn Smith.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 until 8 pm on Sunday January 3, 2010 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be held at 7:45pm. The family will again greet relatives and friends from 10 until 11am on Monday January 4, 2010 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Matthew, Christopher and Michael Ricketts, Paul Olson, and Gordon and Guy Murray.
