National Mine- Charles H. Maki, age 80 of 1025 Co. Rd. PAE Ishpeming, (National Mine) passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
Charles was born September 8, 1930 in National Mine to the late John & Naima (Baslo) Maki. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Charlie worked for Robbins Flooring Mill for 33 years. In his youth he enjoyed playing baseball and later in life fly fishing. He had a great sense of humor and loved time spent with his granddaughter Makenzie.
Charles is survived by his wife Betty (Solka) Maki whom he married November 9, 1973, 2 children: Melissa (fiancé Ken Rajala) Maki of National Mine, Brian Maki of National Mine, a granddaughter Makenzie Rajala, a brother Raymond Maki of Ishpeming, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: Elsie Piatti and Helen Marietti and a brother William Maki.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Friday from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am.
The Maki family would like to thank the staff at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care given to Charlie while a resident there.
