Ishpeming – Charles R. Lyons Sr., age 83, longtime Ishpeming Twp. resident passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where he had been a resident for the past 3 months.
Charles was born in Ishpeming on May 22, 1935 the son of the late Patrick S. and Varma A. (Oikarinen) Lyons. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Charlie finished his high school education through the Ishpeming Adult Education program. Charlie was a pipefitter working out of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local #111 for 20+ years.
Charlie enjoyed his visits to the Ishpeming VFW where he was a member, along with coffee clutching at the Ishpeming McDonald's twice a day. He also like to pass his time fishing, reading and woodworking.
Charles is survived by three daughters - Virginia "Ginny" (Tony) Tippett, Cynthia "Cindy" (Doug) Alspach and Karen Poirier all of Ishpeming; two sons - Charles "Skip" (Marci) Lyons of Ishpeming and Patrick (Tracy) Lyons of Oshkosh, WI, 2 sisters – Virginia Holmgren and Patricia LaFreniere, and a brother-in-law Robert Lahde all of Ishpeming, along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends from McDonald's. He was preceded in death by his wife Kay Lyons in 2007, brother James Lyons and grandchildren – Charlie and Angela Lyons & Andrew Tippett.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 2 – 4 PM on Wednesday Dec. 19, 2018, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380 at 4:00 PM. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery, Good Shepherd Columbarium. A light coffee social will follow at the Ishpeming VFW on Wednesday
Charlie's family wishes to thank everyone involved in the meals on wheels program for providing meals to Charlie over the years and the staff at the Marquette Co Medical Care Facility for their care and compassion.
