Ishpeming- Charles Calvin Kent, age 83 of 205 S. Angeline St. Ishpeming, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility where he been a resident for the past 9 months.
Charles was born June 27, 1929 in Negaunee, MI to James & Mildred (Kendall) Kent. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, and Michigan National Guard. Calvin worked as a delivery truck driver for Elson Bottling Works, as an underground miner at the Tracey Mine, at K.I. Sawyer in the Transportation Division and most recently as a school bus driver for the N.I.C.E. Community Schools.
Charles loved camping at his favorite campgrounds Van Riper State Park and Summer Breeze in Iron Mountain; he enjoyed his dogs, working and loved all the kids that rode on his school buses. Charles was a life member of the Negaunee V.F.W. and a member of the Lake Superior C.B. Club.
Charles is survived by 3 children: Larry Kent, Tammy (Ronald) McCarthy, and Jim (Jackie) Kent all of Ishpeming, 4 grandchildren: Mariya (Dale Klefman) McCormick, Ronda (Weston Dishaw) Johnson, Kayla Kent and Devin Kent, 3 great grandchildren: Dylan Klefman, Tate Klefman and Sylas Dishaw along with several nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents James and Mildred, wife Carol, sisters: Vi, Ivy, and Clara and brothers: Doug, Dalton and Donald.
Funeral services for Charles will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, April 18th at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Rev. Douglas Mater officiating.
Charles family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00pm.
Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.
