Obituary

Negaunee – Charles P. Gahn, age 64, of 406 Gold St., Negaunee passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at U.P. Health System – Marquette.

Charles was born January 29, 1950 in Cheboygan, MI the son of Audrey (Babcock) and the late Hubert Gahn. Chuck grew up on Bois Blanc Island on the Straights of Mackinac and lived in Bad Axe and Alpena, MI prior to moving to Negaunee in 1989 where he resided since. He attended trade school in Plainwell, MI learning the jewelry and watch repair trade, which he put to good use throughout his lifetime. Although Charlie was handicapped from an accidental gunshot wound he pressed on with his life. He worked for the past 25½ years at Jandrons Fine Jewelry Store in Marquette and it was said that Charlie was a magic man at the jewelry bench, having fixed over a million jewelry pieces and watches in his career.

Chuck enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and racing model cars. He was a sponsor of Jeff Haley's race car in Elkton, MI and loved to watch NASCAR races, having attended the race in Bristol this past season.

Survivors include his former wife and companion Carol Gahn of Negaunee, mother Audrey Gahn of Cheboygan, MI, daughter Heidi (Kevin) Blanck of Ishpeming, 4 sisters – Roseanne Crist of Cheboygan, Clover (Joseph) Schlund of Bois Blanc Island, MI, Rebecca Petrusch of Marquette and Rachel (Terry) Vallance of Cheboygan, a brother Michael (Cheryl) Gahn of Bois Blanc Island, 4 grandchildren, including twins Renee and Natalie along with Michael and Avery Blanck. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his father Hubert and brother Pat John Gahn who died at age two.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 – 3:00pm on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm on Thursday with the Rev. J.J. Mannschreck to officiate. A luncheon will follow the services in the fellowship hall at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Gahn, Kevin Blanck, Michael Blanck, Neil Jandron, Jon Arntsen, Doug Kytola and Jeff Haley.

In honor of Charlie, both Jandrons Fine Jewelry and Janrons II will be closed all day on Thursday January 22, 2015.
