Ishpeming – Celia J. Anderson, age 97, lifelong Ishpeming resident passed away at 8:10am on Tuesday October 7, 2008 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while under the care of the Lake Superior Hospice.


Celia was born March 5, 1911 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late Thomas and Jane (Curnow) James. Celia was a lifelong Ishpeming resident and member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. She was active with the United Methodist Women, and took great pride in the churches Pasty making, having been involved with all aspects of the Pasty making and sales. Celia had also been active in the Eastern Star and the North American Benefit Society (WBA). Celia enjoyed tattering. She and her late husband had wintered in Florida for 18 years during their retirement years.


Survivors include a son Charles (Sharon) Anderson of Ishpeming, a daughter Carol (Thomas) Van Nelson of Summit Lake, WI, 5 grandchildren – Pamela (Daniel) Bahrman of Rumley, Steven (Julie) Anderson of Marquette; and Sara, John and Emily Van Nelson all of Milwaukee, WI, 5 great grandchildren, along with 5 nieces. Celia was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Anderson in 1994, and a sister Ruth James.


The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00am until the time of services at 11:00am on Friday October 10th, 2008 at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Women in Celia's memory.

Pallbearers will be Steven Anderson, John Van Nelson, Daniel Bahrman and Andrew Bahrman.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility, especially the 400 wing, for their loving care of Celia these past 6 years.
