Ishpeming- Carmen Barbiere, age 94 of 605 N. Lake St. Ishpeming, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident for the past 5 months.
Carmen was born October 4, 1920 in Negaunee to Fere and Lena (DeLarye) LaMere. She and her husband August Barbiere owned and operated Tino's Bar & Pizza in Negaunee from 1962 until 1982. Carmen was an excellent cook and baker, she enjoyed making special dinners every Sunday for her family. Pie making was one of her specialties.
Carmen enjoyed quilting, sewing and loved her flower gardens. She had a "green thumb", she could bring plants back to life that others could not keep alive. Playing cards and watching NBA basketball were some of her favorite pasttimes.
Carmen is survived by 3 children: Patricia (Glenn) Garrett of Ishpeming, John (Kay) Wirtanen of Ishpeming and Phillip (Julie) Barbiere of Champion, 5 sisters: Lorraine Laituri of Palmer, Delores LaMere of Portland, OR, Nancy Hill of Negaunee, Donis (Don) DeLong of Madison, SD, & Judy (Jerry) Williams of Negaunee, 2 brothers: Gordon (Viola) LaMere of Suomi Location and Larry "Chipper" (Sandy) LaMere of IL, 10 grandchildren: Jeanne (Bill) Jenkin, Robert (Lori) Garrett, Kristen LeSage, John C. Wirtanen, David (Katie) Guizzetti, Tina Guizzetti, Laura Sovey, Sara (Tim) Ryan, Melissa (Steve) McCoy, & Anthony (Jamie) Barbiere, 23 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents Lena and Fere LaMere, husband August "Tino" Barbiere, daughter Carmen Anderson, grandsons: Michael Wirtanen and Todd Barbiere, a brother Robert LaMere, and sisters: JoAnn LaMere, Margaret Kippola and an infant sister Elaine LaMere.
Carmen's family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon on Monday February 16, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon with Fr. Larry Van Damme to officiate.
A luncheon will be held at the K/D Hall at St. Johns Church following the Memorial Mass.
Memorials may be directed to the Activity Fund at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in memory of Carmen.
