Obituary
Ishpeming- Carl E. Wiitanen, age 87 of 403 N. Main St. #4 Ishpeming, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Bell Memorial Hospital.
Carl was born October 2, 1921 in Calumet, MI to William & Sophie (Basto) Wiitanen. Carl grew up in Calumet and served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. After being honorably discharged Carl moved to Muskegon, MI and later to the Detroit area where he worked for Daimler-Chrysler. He worked as an assembly line worker for 30 years at the Hamtramck Plant. After his retirement Carl moved to the Ishpeming area in the late 1990's.
Carl loved fishing, especially trout stream fishing, and he loved to watch the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers and was an avid sports fan.
Carl is survived by a sister Gladys Marketty and a brother Hubert Wiitanen both of Ishpeming numerous nieces & nephews and a wonderful friend & caregiver Lola. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
A funeral service will be held 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00pm until the time of service at 5:00pm.
