Ishpeming – Carl R. "Blinger" Petersen, age 86, former Ishpeming resident passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 2, 2014 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had been a resident since January 24, 2014.
Carl was born January 18, 1928 in Ishpeming, MI the son of the late Carl J. and Mildred (Guleckson) Petersen. Carl spent his early years living in the New York location of Ishpeming, spending summers at the family farm in Skandia, and at the family cabin on the Dead River Basin.
Carl joined the United States Navy where he found a love of cooking on board ship during World War II. This love of cooking continued throughout his entire life, whether it be Commander in Chief at the VFW, the New York Club, the Vasa Lodge, or just for his friends and family.
Carl retired from C.C.I. In 1982, and moved to his cabin on the Dead River Basin for the summers. Where family members live today so he was able to enjoy his beloved Dead River Basin. Being able to cook this years Thanksgiving Dinner brought him so much enjoyment. Carl was an avid Ishpeming Hematite and Detroit Lions Fan and a Green Bay Packer hater.
Carl is survived by his wife Sandra Petersen of Ishpeming; daughters - Carla (Bob) Kennedy of Ishpeming, Elizabeth (James) Hilton of Warwick, NY, Sue (Gary) Danielson of Ishpeming; sons – Carl "Ray" (Marla) Petersen of Ishpeming, Terry (Sherry) Polkki of Ishpeming; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; Sandra's daughters Jackie (Brad) Bessner, Paula (Mike) Kelly and Debbie (Dean) Olson. Also surviving are a sister Shirley Langsford of Ishpeming, and a special niece Judy (Gary) Anderson. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Florence (Nault) Petersen, and his sister Helen and Ruth; a grandson Jacob and Sandra's granddaughter Leanne.
Per Carl's wishes cremation will take place and his cremains will be taken care of as he requested with no service to be held.
