Obituary

Michigamme – Calvin B. "Cal" Frisk, age 80, of 108 E. Lake St., Michigamme went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 surrounded by his wife Roberta of 59½ years, and his loving family.

Cal was born in Michigamme, MI on April 16, 1930 the son of the late Otto and Ethel (Luneau) Frisk. He was Valedictorian of the class of 1948 at the Michigamme High School. Cal was offered a full basketball scholarship to N.M.U. but declined because of family obligations. Cal had worked at the Simonen's Grocery Store in Michigamme, and went on to work for C.C.I. from 1952 to 1964. He then became a Standard Oil distributor which became Frisk Oil Co. from which he retired in 1988. He was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Champion, and had served as a member of the Board of Directors at the Peninsula Bank for several years. Cal and Birdie enjoyed wintering in Donna, TX for 11 years during his retirement.

Cal loved his community of Michigamme and was named "Volunteer of the Year" in 2003 by the Marquette Co. Twp. association. Cal loved to sing "The Michigamme Song" when asked…and even when not asked. He was a 50+ year charter member of the Michigamme Champion Lions Clubs. Although basketball was his passion, he loved all sports - baseball, bowling and golf to mention a few. He sponsored many local teams under the name of Frisk Oilers, including basketball, men's and women's softball and bowling teams. Cal was an avid Detroit sports fan, Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers and especially the Lions who made him proud by beating that other team a couple weeks ago. Cal enjoyed time spent with his family at camp on Lake George.

Cal is survived by his wife Roberta "Birdie" Frisk of Michigamme, 4 sons – Larry (Kay) Frisk of Michigamme, Denny (Penny) Frisk of Champion, Tim (Pam) Frisk of Champion, Barry (Sue) Frisk of Wilson, daughter-in-law Mary Frisk (Bob) Mechling of Marquette, 10 grandchildren – Cory (Nicki) Frisk, Kara (Brad) Havel, Deanna (Matt) LaCosse, Debbie (Marc) Marizzaldi, Derek Frisk, Whitney (James) Saunders, Robert Frisk, Matt Frisk, Marisa Frisk and Justin Frisk, great grandchildren – Tucker, Tanner, Callie, Keira, Nathan, Carter, Lyla and Quinn, 2 sisters – Marie Young of Marquette and Janet Foster of Ishpeming, a sister-in-law Rose Frisk of Negaunee, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
