Obituary

Ishpeming- Calvin C. Bjorne, 86, of 104 Malton Rd. #15 Negaunee, and former Big Perch Lake resident, passed away, Wednesday, May 25th, at Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Calvin was born in North Lake location on October 1, 1924, a son of the late Martha (Walimaa) and Gust Bjorne. Cal graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1942 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country during World War II, in both the European and Pacific theaters from 1943-1946. Following his military service he attended Michigan Technological University and graduated with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering.

Cal began his illustrious service in Elkdom with his initiation in 1950 in the Ishpeming Lodge No 447. He began his progression through the chairs in 1957 and was elected Exalted Ruler in 1961. His elevation to State and National service began 1962. He served as Michigan Elks Association Board of Trustee chairman for 3 years and state president from 1975-1976, Grand Lodge Board Chairman from 1988-1989 and Grand Esteemed Leading Knight from 1997to 1998 along with many other positions in the Elkdom.

Cal worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 34 years as a metallurgical engineer working at the Eagle Mills location and the Research lab retiring in 1985. Cal enjoyed time spent with family and was proud of his Finnish heritage. He loved his place on Big Perch Lake and spending many winters in Florida. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, traveling and was an avid Detroit Lions Fan.

Cal is survived by his wife Mary (Holmgren) Ameen Bjorne of Woodland Assisted Living, Sons: Gregg (Joan) Bjorne of Chassell, MI, Glenn (Maribeth) Bjorne of Oshkosh, WI and Gary (Kris) Bjorne of Diorite, step sons; Fritz (Debbie) Ameen of Medford, OR, David (Joyce) Ameen of Logansport, IN, grandsons: Kevin (Andrea) Bjorne, Kenneth "K.C." (Kristen) Bjorne, granddaughters: Brooke (Jason) LeClair, Kori (Byron) Tossava, great grandchildren: Gabriel, Benjamin, Grace, Samuel, William, Colin and Alexander. Also surviving are his brothers: Norman (Arlene) Bjorne of Ishpeming, and Bernhart Bjorne of Big Perch Lake along with nieces and nephews. Cal was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jeanette (Rice) Bjorne in 1975 and brothers: Wesley, Edwin, Leslie, and Wallace.

A Memorial Service will be held 4:00PM on Saturday, May 28th, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday at the Wesley United Methodist Church from 2:00-4:00pm. The Ishpeming ELKS Lodge will conduct a memorial service 3:00pm at the church.

The Vietnam Veteran of America Chapter #380 will conduct Military Honors at the conclusion of the service.
