Ishpeming - Clarence Lee (Sonny) Hill, age 82, of 135 Cliff St. Ishpeming, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021, while in the loving care of his family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

Lee was born in Ishpeming, on August 19, 1938, a son of the late Alice (Franson) and Howard O. Hill. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1956.  While growing up in Ishpeming, Lee had been an active Ski Jumper. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 -1959 having been stationed in San Diego, CA where he married the love of his life Lynn Wicklund on February 14, 1959.  Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he was employed for a year at General Dynamics in San Diego prior to heading back to the Upper Peninsula where he first worked at the White Pine Copper Mine.  Lee then worked for 33 years with the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co., as a machinist, mainly at the Brownstone Shops in Ishpeming, retiring in 1997.

"Sonny" was a longtime member of the Wawonowin Country Club where he enjoyed golfing on almost a daily basis during the summer months and was a former Club Champion. He enjoyed tending to his yard and flower gardens.  Lee was also a member of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge, and the Ishpeming Ski Club. Lee looked forward to November 15th and participated annually in deer hunting.

Survivors include his wife Lynn M. Hill of Ishpeming; two daughters - Lori (Arnie) Wolthoff of Wabasha, MN; Kristen (Todd Ball) Hill of Ishpeming; 6 grandchildren - Brooke Scott, Matt Nielsen, Tessa (Dylan Hartzell) Nielsen, Taylor Kerkela, Annie (Quinten) Niepoth, Jake (Megan Syrjala) Kerkela; and a brother-in-law Kurt (Sylvia Christy) Wicklund - Treasure Island, FL. Lee was preceded in death by 2 sisters - Joan Chapman, Penny Karhi; and brother David Hill.

Per Lee's wishes, cremation will take place and a private family memorial gathering will be held.
