Ishpeming- Byrl J. Racine, age 67 of Floodwood Location (Sagola Twp), passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007 at his "home"- camp in Floodwood Location.
Byrl was born June 16, 1939 in Ishpeming to Leo J. & Doris A. (LaFreniere) Racine. Byrl graduated from St. Paul's High School in Negaunee in 1957. While in high school, he worked for the City of Ishpeming at the cemetery. Byrl served in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Byrl worked in Muskegon, MI at a foundry and later moved to Ann Arbor. While living in Ann Arbor Byrl worked for the City of Ann Arbor Police Department for 31 years and as a mechanic at a local gas station. He retired as a detective in 1993 when he moved back to the Upper Peninsula.
Byrl enjoyed living at his "camp" in the woods in Floodwood Location south of Ishpeming. He also loved work; if he wasn't working on a project of his own he was always will to help others. Byrl had a love for the outdoors: where he enjoyed hunting & fishing. Byrl also had a group of friends he enjoyed "coffee clutching" with.
Byrl is survived by 4 children: Juanita Racine of Newton Falls, OH, Sandra (Paul) Mattila of Negaunee, Douglas (Sonya) Racine of Ishpeming and Mona Racine of Ishpeming, Byrl also thought of Laura Gray, Robyn(Aaron) Bennett and David St. Aubin as his own. 9 grandchildren: Justin, Hanna, Tiffany, Nina, Andraya, Ashley, Dylan, Xavier, and Leah, 3 great grandchildren Brian, Lilyan and Genisses, a sister: Lois Anderson of Munising, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends: including Dee Connors, Audrey Gray & family, Rick & Liz Cornell, Roy Nickelson, Mr & Mrs.Jan Eenuis and James & Lois Racine, Ben & Arlene Thexton and Lee & Gail Bessola. Byrl was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Francis "Buck" Racine and a sister Gladys Swarthout.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming from 6:00-8:00p.m., There will be no services.
