Ishpeming – Bruno Anthony Valela, age 84, of 310 S. Second St., passed away the morning of Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp.

Bruno was born on January 27, 1924, the son of the late Frank and Mary (Denato) Valela in Ishpeming. Bruno graduated Ishpeming High School in 1942 and faithfully served our country in the United Stats Army from 1943 until 1946 when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and belonged to the St. Rocco/St. Anthony Society. He worked for Hercules Power Company, Robbins Flooring Mill and retired from Joseph's Super Value where he worked for thirty years.

Survivors include a son: Francis Valela, four sisters: Mary Jacobson, Theresa Bertucci, Clara Joseph, and Cathy (Peter) Carlson all of Ishpeming, along with several nieces and nephews. Bruno was preceded in death by his wife Doris "Jean" (Fisher) Valela on August 11, 2002, and a brother Joseph Valela.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, August 25, 2008 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00AM until the time of service at 11:00AM. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery following a luncheon. A St. Vincent DePaul Memorial Service will be conducted at 10:45AM.
