Republic – Bonnie Jean Fowler, age 57, of 266 Hemlock St. passed away on Saturday August 22, 2009 at her home under the loving care of her family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Bonnie was born on May 5, 1952 in Crystal Falls, the daughter of the late Alec and Ann (Kohon) Casagranda. Bonnie married William Fowler on July 2, 1982 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, where she was a member of the church council and the altar society. They resided in the Republic area for the past 27 years. Bonnie also enjoyed her time spent in the church choir, the pasty crew and at St. Vincent DePaul Store as a volunteer. She worked as a waitress for many years at the Happy Italian and Mertins Restaurants in the Iron River area. She also worked as a nurse's aide at the Mather Nursing Center.
Bonnie loved nature, long walks, all animals, the family farm, her family and friends. She loved to be one of the workers behind the scene and saw beauty and grace in all four season, especially the last two years of her life. She lost her struggle to mesothelioma after a long hard battle and never complained. Bonnie had a beautiful soul and heart which are now in heaven.
Bonnie is survived by her loving husband William Fowler of Republic, sisters: Polly (Steve) Yaros, Pat (Lyle) Wiencek, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jim and Sue Fowler, Jim and Mary Ann Zawlocki along with numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, great nephews and great nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00PM on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Republic with Fr. Jim Challancin officiating. Interment will take place at the Republic Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass. St. Vincent DePaul Society will have a memorial service prior to the funeral.
The family will greet friends and relatives at the St. Augustine Catholic Church from 11:00 AM until the time of services. A luncheon will be held following the graveside service.
