Ishpeming, MI- Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Varda, age 98, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.

Elizabeth was born in Iron River, Michigan on November 10, 1923, a daughter of the late Walter L. and Irene R. (Borns) Hoar. She graduated from Iron River High School, Class of 1941, and attended cosmetology school in Detroit for 1 year.

Betty worked at Bell Memorial Hospital, retiring as the dietary manager.

Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marquette, where she was active in her church circle. Betty and Ray enjoyed traveling together, and square dancing. She also loved playing bridge, going out for dinners, and playing bingo.

Betty is survived by four sons; Raymond (Jane) Varda, Thomas (Patricia) Varda, Robert (Patricia) Varda and James (Mandy) Varda, a sister Barbara Hoar, seven grandchildren; Jessie Varda, Brad Varda, David (Kelly) Varda, Michael (Michelle) Varda, Hayley (Tim) Neu, Brandon Varda, Justin Varda, and eight great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband Raymond.

Services for Betty will be held privately at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Presbytery Point Camp, or Bay Cliff Health Camp in memory of Betty.
