Marquette- Betty Jean (Ostlund) Gagnon, age 79 of 120 Dandelion Lane Marquette (Chocolay Twp) passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her home while in the loving care of her family and UP Home Health & Hospice.
Betty was born September 29, 1937 in Ishpeming to Carl & Helen (Handberg) Ostlund. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1955. Betty worked for the local cable company for 18 years.
Betty was a life long member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in many church activities including serving on the church council, a former Sunday school teacher, Morning Circle, Soup luncheons, and was one of the "good bye girls" serving funeral luncheons. Betty's favorite place to be was camp, where she enjoyed canoeing and kayaking. She was also very talented with handcrafts: including knitting, crocheting and tatting and enjoyed playing the piano daily. Betty was also a wonderful gardener.
Betty is survived by her husband Edward Gagnon, whom she married on September 20, 1975, 4 daughters: D.L. (Iva Walton) Betts of Isleton, CA, Julie (Randy Demars) Johnson, Christine (David) Rantanen and Michelle Gagnon of Manistique, MI, a brother George (Marilyn) Ostlund of Ishpeming, her mother in law Laura Gagnon of Marquette, brothers in law and sisters in law: Keith (Sharon) Gagnon of Howell, MI, Rosanne (Lowell) Fleury of Onaway, MI, Mary Lou (Gary) Maki of Ashwaubenon, WI, and Patricia Gagnon of Marquette, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous very special nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Kathleen Hogan and a brother Kenneth Ostlund.
Betty's family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 10:00am-12:00 noon at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where a memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev Kenneth Lahners officiating.
A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or UPAWS at upaws.org in memory of Betty Gagnon.
