Ishpeming - Betty Lou Charbonneau, age 82, formerly of 1113 N. Third St. Ishpeming passed away on Friday November 7, 2008 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming with her loving family by her side. She had been a patient for the past 2 weeks.
Betty was born April 7, 1926 in Superior, WI the daughter of the late Edward and Myrtle (White) Anderson. She grew up in Bibon, WI until her family moved to Ishpeming when she was entering the fourth grade. She attended the Ishpeming Public School until mid-way through her senior year in High School, when she moved to Marquette and graduated from Graveraet High School in 1943. She had worked in the offices of Kemp's Furniture in Ishpeming starting in 1944, and continued working there while also working at the H. W. Gossard Co. as a seamstress until 1950. She had married the late Paul "Speck" Charboneau on July 6, 1946.
Betty was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the ladies guild. Betty enjoyed catering dinners at St. Joe's for many years. Betty was a member of the New York Club Auxiliary and the Ishpeming VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of a local Bridge Club. Betty and Paul enjoyed camping, and had wintered in Texas and Florida during their early retirement years.
Survivors include two sons – Wayne (Judy) Charbonneau of Ishpeming and Mark (Mary Kay) Charbonneau of Norway, a daughter Paula (Terry) Holmgren of Ishpeming, 5 grandchildren – Amy Charbonneau of Ishpeming, Tracee (Joel) Kauppila of Marquette, Jason (Maryellen) Charboneau of Ishpeming, Mark and Hart Holmgren both of Ishpeming, 2 great grandchildren – Ian Kauppila and Alexis Charbonneau, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Charbonneau in 2005, and a brother Edward Anderson.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00pm until 6:00pm on Tuesday November 11, 2008 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6:00pm with the Rev. Fr. James Challancin to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph Church Memorial Fund or Bay Cliff Health Camp in Betty's memory.
