Ishpeming Twp, MI- Bernard Ernest "Bernie" LaFond, age 79, lifelong Ishpeming resident passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility and was in the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Bernard was born in Ishpeming, MI on July 29, 1943, a son of the late Ernest A. and Rose M. (Trudell) LaFond. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1962. Following graduation Bernie enlisted in the US. Army, and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.

Bernie worked as a delivery truck driver for Cohodas Brothers for 20 plus years and later drove school bus for the NICE Community School District.

Bernie enjoyed outdoor activities, including kayaking, hiking, and skiing. He spent many summers camping throughout the UP and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Juanita, his special friend of many years Emlee Young and 2 brothers; Edward and Leo LaFond.

A visitation for Bernie will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 am at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home where his funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with Fr. Ryan Ford officiating.

A luncheon will follow at the Ishpeming V.F.W.

The UP-Funeral Honors Team will accord Military Honors.

Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Memorial considerations may be directed to Marquette County Medical Care Facility-Activity Fund or Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice in memory of Bernie.
