Ishpeming – Bernice M. Clements, age 95, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at UP Health System Bell where she had been a patient since this past Wednesday.
Bernice was born April 8, 1919 in Hancock, MI to John & Mary (Ghena) Barth. She graduated from Houghton High School. Bernice worked as the Deputy Treasurer for the City of Ishpeming where she retired from in 1984.
Bernice was a lifelong devout Catholic, she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was active with the Womens Guild. Bernice was an avid card player, having played in many card clubs and played cribbage for over 20 years at the senior center. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the former New York Club, and Wawonowin Country Club. Bernice was an excellent cook, pasties were one of her specialties. Bernice could always be seen at her grandchildren's sporting events, cheering them on.
Bernice is survived by a daughter: Barb (Bill) Blewett of Ishpeming, 5 grandchildren: Kerry (Jay) Simons of DePere, WI, Mark (Brenda) Clements of Ishpeming, Beth (Greg) Corbat of Perry, MI, Jeff (Charleen) Blewett of Marquette and Joe (Jessica) Blewett of Midland, MI, 10 great grandchildren: Anna & Keira Simons, Trent Sweeney, Cash Clements, Lillie & Ella Corbat, Jack, Bryn, Sophie & Ally Blewett, along with much loved nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Silas, a son and daughter-in-law: Silas & Carol Clements, a sister: Irma Walker and a brother Hubert Barth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Fr. Dan Moll officiating. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Bernice's family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at St. Johns Catholic Church from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
