Ishpeming- Bernice M. Carlson, age 76 of 1084 Cooper Lake Rd. Ishpeming, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at her home.
Bernice was born January 17, 1935 to Elmer & Margaret (Farm) Kangas. She attended the Ishpeming Schools receiving her GED in 1969 and her practical nursing degree from Northern Michigan University in 1971. She married Kenneth Carlson on August 30, 1952 and they were married for over 55 years.
Bernice worked as a LPN at Marquette General Hospital for 22 years retiring in 1993. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needle point and reading. In her young years she enjoyed horseback riding and had a love for animals and will be missed by her canine companions Pixie and Sassy-Sue. She and her late husband Kenneth also loved to travel.
Bernice is survived by 5 children: Kenneth (Carol) Carlson of Menominee, MI, Jeffery Carlson of Ishpeming, Michael (Linda) Carlson of Negaunee, Roberta (Rueben) Houle of Savage, MN and Joseph Carlson of Las Vegas, NV, a sister Lorraine Contreras of Ishpeming, brothers in law: Richard (Marie) Carlson of Negaunee, Robert (Carol) Carlson of Negaunee, Phil (Mavis) Carlson of Negaunee, James (Diane) Carlson of Negaunee, Roger Carlson of Gwinn and Neil (Marjorie) Carlson of Marquette along with 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth and a sister Christine Anderson.
A memorial service will be held 5:00PM, Monday, November 28th at the Good News Assembly of God Church in Ishpeming with Pastor John Roy officiating.
The family will greet friends and relatives at the Good News Assembly of God Church on Monday from 3:00PM until the time of service at 5:00PM.
