National Mine- Barry A. Alderton, age 63 longtime National Mine resident passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where he had been a resident for the past 3 months.
Barry was born June 2, 1955 in Marquette to Frederick A. and Betty E. (Girard) Alderton. Barry graduated from National Mine High School, and attended Suomi College (Finlandia University) for 2 years where he played basketball.
Barry worked in the carpenter's union prior to working for Cleveland Cliffs, where he worked for 17 years in maintenance.
Barry was an avid sports fan of the Detroit Lions, Tigers and MSU Spartans. He participated in many local basketball, softball and fastpitch leagues throughout his life. Barry enjoyed golfing and was instrumental in starting the Bone Tebo annual golf scramble. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino and liked playing poker with friends.
Barry is survived by 4 children; Jason (Laura) Gauthier of Negaunee, Jenna (Kelly) Alderton of Arlington, MA, Jonathan "Chuck" Alderton of Ishpeming and Jordan Alderton of Marquette, grandchildren: Emily, Evan and Ethan Gauthier, Jaxson Alderton, Addelyn Hallum, Aaleyah, Jordan and Jarelle Alderton-Pratt, his ex-wife and friend Tammy Alderton, along with many extended family members and many life long friends. Barry was preceded in death by his parents Fred "Adu" and Betty Alderton, a sister Sandy (Greg) LeClair and his canine companion "Itchy".
Barry's family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming.
