Marquette - Barbara Luree Taggart, age 82, of 17 ½ E. Nicolet Blvd., Marquette passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at her home while in the loving care of her family and the Lake Superior Hospice.

Barbara was born in Dallas Texas on June 12, 1933; the only child of Isabelle and James Buchanan. She attended Southern Methodist University and received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education. She married Tracy Poe and they had a child, James Buchanan Poe. She later divorced and then remarried. With her second husband James Taggart she had another child, Robert Bruce Taggart. The Family relocated to Colorado where they lived in Boulder, Golden, and Littleton. Barbara and James would later relocate to Marquette to be close to their grandchildren.

My mother enjoyed many hobbies and activities. She became a gourmet chef, preparing culinary delights much to our pleasure. Barbara collected innumerable cooking magazines and cookbooks which provided her with ideas to try in her kitchen. Along with her cooking she always enjoyed a good bottle of wine with the meal.

Barbara enjoyed weaving, as well as creating and using natural dyes on her yarns. She was a member of the Rocky Mountain Weavers Guild for as long as I can remember and served as the organizations president. I can remember mom dragging dad and I out into the woods so she could collect plants, and lichens, to be used to make her dyes.

As a family we use to go camping and skiing all over Colorado. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of those trips. In later years mom traded in the tent for luggage to be used on her many trips to Europe; especially France, her favorite destination. Often, she would seek out restaurants she read about in her magazines; planning her vacation around the meals she wanted to eat.

Barbara worked in the Dallas school district, then in the Boulder school district where she taught various grades of elementary school students. She later changed careers and became an office manager at a firm in Denver where she worked until she retired.

Barbara is survived by her two sons James Poe and Robert Taggart, her daughter-in-law Marcia Taggart (Roe), and her three grand children Mitchall, Zachary, and Michael Taggart.  She is proceeded in death buy her husband James who passed in 2011. She will be missed.
