Ishpeming= Barbara J. Sheldon, age 91,  longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Tuesday June 22, 2021 at her daughters home in Big Bay, while in the loving care of her family, and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Barbara was born in Oak Park, IL on December 28, 1929, daughter of the late Werner Matson and Syma Kulju. She grew up in Ishpeming, attending Ishpeming Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1948. Following graduation Barbara worked at Bell Telephone as an operator until she married her husband William Sheldon and moved to Milwaukee for a brief period. After returning to the UP she raised her family and then worked as a secretary at the Bethel Lutheran Church.

Barbara was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, she volunteered with the Salvation Army in Ishpeming for many years. She enjoyed helping people, knitting, reading, spending time with her family.

Barbara is survived by her 5 children- Patty (Fred) Bolitho of Big Bay, Jim (Debbie) Sheldon of Skanee, Dave (Annette) Sheldon of Round Rock, TX, Brian Sheldon of Gwinn, Pamela (Mike) Williams of Shelburne Falls, MA, brother- Roger (Marilyn) Matson of Ishpeming, several loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years William Sheldon, and sister- Carol Green.

Barbara's family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home on Tuesday June 29, 2021 from 11:00am until 12:00 noon. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, or the Salvation Army in Ishpeming, cards may also be directed to Barbara's daughter at P.O. Box 264 Big Bay, MI 49808.

As Barbara always said "May your guardian Angel watch over you, and remember to thank them."
