Republic / Ishpeming - Barbara C. Schmuck, age 84, longtime Republic resident passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee where she had resided for the past few years.

Barbara was born in Dearborn, MI on October 5, 1936, daughter of the late Martha Catherine (Stewart) and Leo James McLaughlin. She was a graduate of the Dearborn High School, Class of 1955.

Barb was a devoted wife, mom, grama and great grama, her family was her world. There were always homemade cookies in the cookie jar and a delicious meal waiting to enjoy by family and friends. She was truly the "Queen" of our family and will be deeply missed.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Republic where she had been active in the Church Choir and the Quilters group. Barb also worked as a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul store in Republic, practiced Tai Chi, taught Weight Watchers, and sang in the Seed Sower's singing group.

Survivors include three daughters - Kathleen (Rob) Wallace of Grass Lake; Tamara Granlund of Republic; Elizabeth (Greg) Hintsala of Ishpeming; son Michael (Kate) Schmuck of Ephrata, WA; sister Virginia Tyler of Ypsilanti; grandchildren – Ryan Wallace, Rob (Teresa) Wallace, Allison (Brad) Biron, Katie (Josh) Adams, Shawn (Nikki) Granlund, Faren Granlund, Lauren (Bob) Boivin, Steven (Erin) Hintsala, Andrea (Dan) Hodgins, Chandra "Sebastian" (Parker) Serino, Rebekah Schmuck and Emma Schmuck; great grandchildren – Aubrey, Madalyn, Garrett Wallace, Nora, Lexi, Kali Jarrell, Emmit Biron, Michael, Olivia Adams, Gabriel, Alora, Ezra Boivin, Mason, Avery, Beckett Hintsala, Isabelle, Noelle Hodgins; along with lifelong friends Julie Rogers and the late Luryne Gallinetti. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Schmuck, brothers Leo and John McLaughlin.

Barb was well cared for and loved by the staff at Eastwood Nursing Center, especially CNA Glenn Troupe.

The family will hold a celebration of her life in a private ceremony.
