Ishpeming – Barbara A. Maki, age 79, longtime resident of 201 Zoberlein St., Ishpeming passed away peacefully at 7:14am on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had resided for the past 10 months.


Barbara was born December 12, 1933 in Ishpeming, the daughter of the late Ellis and Agartha (Youren) Hecko. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1951. Barb had worked at the H.W. Gossard Co. as a seamstress. She moved on to become a legal secretary for Attorney Neil Lynch in Negaunee and then for the firm of Clancey, Hansen, Chillman, Graybill and Greenlee for several years until her retirement.


Barbara enjoyed watching old movies, along with reading and quilting. She always looked forward to her vacations with friends spent in Las Vegas.


Survivors include 3 children – Judy (Jim) Mongiat of Ishpeming, Eugene (Bonnie) Maki of Ishpeming and John (Juliana) Maki of Little Lake, a sister Betty (Doug) Larson of Ishpeming, grandchildren – Jen (Tony) Lenten, Joe (Becky) Mongiat, Josh (Heather) Mongiat, Bonnie Jean (Roger) Steede, Jon (Sarah) Maki and Gary Maki, great grandchildren – Jenna & Ty Syrjala, Sam Mongiat, Owen Mongiat, Haylee & Delanee Lenten, Cory & Connor Steede, Declan & Ian Maki along with an expected great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Susan Simons.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 1 until 3pm on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
