Obituary
Ishpeming – Barbara C. Kantola, age 68, of 1765 Rosewood Lane, Ishpeming Twp., passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at UP Health System Marquette where she had been a patient for the past day. Barb had courageously battled cancer for over 10 years.
Barb was born March 18, 1947 in Stambaugh, MI the daughter of the late Orville and Elsie I. (Salo) Longrie. She grew up in Sidnaw and was a graduate of the L'Anse High School, Class of 1966. Not long after graduating she moved to this area, first resided in Negaunee and since 1972 she resided in Ishpeming Twp. Barb was married to the late George Kantola who preceded her in death on Aug 10, 2013.
Barb was a member of the Christ the King Lutheran Church. She was a woman of great strength and spirituality who enjoyed bible studies. Barb loved her dogs, tending to her house plants, shopping with friends, watching butterflies, along with quilting and crafting. In her younger years she had a passion for cross country skiing.
Survivors include 2 sons – John (Julie Bessolo) Kantola of Diorite Loc., and Kevin (Tanya Warren) Kantola of Negaunee, daughter Julie (Tony) Gorman of Madera, CA, sister Beverly (Steve) Maki of Watton, brother Ronald Longrie of Marquette, 7 grandchildren – Mitchell, Brenton and Raquelle Kantola, Collin, Jake and Kayla Gorman and Michael Nault along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George in 2013, son James "Jaimie" Kantola, sister Darlene Guindon, and brothers Gerald and David Longrie.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10am – 11:00am on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Twp. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am on Monday at the Christ the King Lutheran Church with the Rev. DJ Thompson to officiate. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Pallbearers will be John, Kevin, Mitchell and Brenton Kantola and Russell Salo.
