Ishpeming – Barbara S. Engstrom, age 83, formerly of 600 Jopling Ave. Ishpeming passed away peacefully at 3:49am on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had resided since July 14, 2011.
Barbara was born October 18, 1928 in Ishpeming, MI the daughter of the late Audubon and Mildred (Harju) Jenkins. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1946. She married the late Albert Engstrom on March 23, 1948 in Ishpeming. Barbara was self-employed, making wedding cakes and other special occasion cakes for many years. She was an active member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women.
Barbara enjoyed painting and was a longtime member of Roger Junak's painting class. She put together her family's genealogy and enjoyed keeping in touch with family members through sending cards during the holidays. Barbara enjoyed visiting with people, and could strike up a conversation just about anywhere.
Survivors include 2 sons – Rick (Sharon) Engstrom of Alpena and Peter (Sandi) Engstrom of Ishpeming, a daughter Barbara "Bee" Engstrom of Ishpeming, 3 grandchildren – Joshua (Melissa Jenkins) Engstrom of Bellville, Nathan (Katie Young) Engstrom of Alpena and Rachel Engstrom of Huntington Beach, CA, a great grandson Brody Engstrom, step-grandchildren – Jesondra Pennala and Jennifer Aho, and step-great grandchildren – Cody and Cassidy Heikkila, Dominicque, Bailey and Nolan Aho-Carello and Xander Pennala. Special cousins – Karen Murr of Ishpeming and Jerry Harju of Marquette along with other cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert on Aug. 12, 2008.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 – 11:00am on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Salisbury United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am on Friday at the Salisbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Douglas Mater to officiate. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
Memorials may be directed to the Salisbury United Methodist Church in Barbara's memory.
