Ishpeming- Barbara Jean Duhame, age 86 of Ishpeming, went to the Lord, peacefully on Saturday July 21, 2018 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she had resided for the past 2 years while in the loving care of her family and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Barb was born in Ishpeming on September 15, 1931, the daughter of the late Donald and Ruth (Chapman) Windsand. She grew up in Ishpeming, attending Ishpeming High School with the Class of 1950. She married George Duhame on December 15, 1949. Barb raised her children and then went to work at the Mather Nursing Home in the housekeeping department for many years.
Barb and George became "snowbirds" upon retirement, traveling to their winter home in Benson, Arizona for 25 years and returning to their camp on the Dead River Basin for summers. She enjoyed spending time in the water, boating, and getting together with friends and family. Other favorite activities were knitting, playing Bingo, playing bean bag, trips to the casino, playing Michigan rummy and dancing, but most enjoyed was spending precious time with family.
Barb was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4573 of Ishpeming and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Ishpeming.
Preceding her in death, her husband of 60 years George in 2009, a sister Patricia Hakala and son-in-law Elmer Garey.
Barb is survived by 5 children: Linda (John Jellar) Garey of Madison, WI, Donald (Kristine) Duhame, Debbie (Bill) Slavin, Richard Duhame, and Gary (Andrea Reynolds) Duhame all of Ishpeming, 8 grandchildren: Tammi (Paul) Manzoline of Puyallup, WA, Shelby (Allen) McGuire of Green Bay, WI, Michael (Chad Francis) Duhame of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Amy (Craig) Swanberg of Ishpeming, Christina Gervasi of Bentonville, AR, Tony (Brandy) Gervasi of Negaunee, Matthew (Amanda Mapes) Duhame, and Clayton Duhame of Ishpeming, 7 great grandchildren: Ryan and Rachel Manzoline, Cloe Duhame, Gabby and Logan McGuire, Vincent and Sophia Gervasi, 2 sisters: Betty (Evert) Koskinen of Florissant, CO, and Rose (Jerry) Wierzbicki of Green Valley, AZ, and very special friend Ray Watters of Ishpeming Township, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt Dorothy Windsand.
Barb's family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00am-12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon with Rev. Fr. Ryan Ford as celebrant and Rev. Fr. Larry Van Damme to con celebrate. A luncheon will follow at the K/D Hall at St. Johns Church.
Inurnment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Barbs family of caregivers at MCMCF for their wonderful care and compassion including the CNA's, Nurses, and Doctors.
