Ishpeming – Audrey L. McCaig, age 71, of 70 Sunnyside Estates, Ishpeming Twp. passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.
Audrey was born September 14, 1940 in Marquette the daughter of the late Thomas and Marjorie (Brendel) McCarthy. Audrey was raised in Skandia, and was a graduate of the Graveraet High School, Class of 1958. Audrey moved to Ishpeming in her early 20's and worked as an office manager first for the Carroll Motor Supply Co. and later for the R.L. Balconi & Sons Co., retiring in June of 2009.
Audrey was always a good friend to all, although quiet you could count on her to do whatever was needed. She was a member of the Ishpeming Women's Pool League, playing for the Paradise Bar for over 25 years. BINGO was a favorite pastime of hers and she annually attended the Hodag Country Music Festival in Rhinelander. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips around Europe to visit her son when he served in the military, along with her many cruises.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, James McCaig of Ishpeming, a son Rick (Rose) McCarthy of San Antonio, TX, 3 step-children – Mike (Rose) McCaig of East Jordan, MI, Mary (Fred) Stilston of Mancelona, and Mark (Debbie) McCaig of Mancelona, a sister – Gloria Mager of Clarksburg Loc., 4 brothers – Alton "Jigger" (Joann) McCarthy of Negaunee, Dale "Scout" (McCarthy) of Fayettville, NC, Larry McCarthy of Gwinn and Duane McCarthy of Negaunee, 2 grandchildren J.D., and Channel McCarthy, many step grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and was currently awaiting the birth of her first great grandchild. She is also survived by a special friend Sherry Conradson. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Donna Tonge and a brother Kenny McCarthy.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 3:30pm until 5:30pm on Monday February 6, 2012 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 5:30pm on Monday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services at the Ishpeming V.F.W.
