Obituary

Ishpeming- Arnold A. Palomaki, age 94 formerly of 270 Marble St. Ishpeming, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he been a resident since October 2003.

Arnold was born November 16, 1913 in Ishpeming to the late August and Emma (Lahti) Palomaki. He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1932 and worked for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Industry for over 40 years, starting out at Cliffs Shaft as an underground miner. He retired as a truck driver at the Tilden Mine. Arnold was a life long area resident and a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. He is the last charter member of the Pioneer Kiwanis Club. Arnold enjoyed biking and cross country skiing with his brothers. He also enjoyed taking saunas and swimming in the lake.

Arnold is survived by three children: Ellen (Toivo) Holmi of Hales Corner, WI, Ruth (Rudy) Maki of Iron Mountain, MI, and Sally (Dr. Raymond) Paine of Knoxville, TN, a step daughter Karen Rundman of Illinois, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one niece and several nephews.

Preceding Arnold in death are his wife Sallie, second wife Raunie, and three brothers, Isaac, Walter, and Sulo.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming at 12:00PM with Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. The family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
