Ishpeming – Arnold L. Locke, age 83 of 140 N. Lilac St., Ishpeming passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.

Arnold was born in Negaunee, MI on November 12, 1925, the son of the late Albert and Alina (Niemi) Locke. He was a 1944 graduate of Negaunee High School and served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Arnold worked for Cleveland Cliffs for many years as a welder at the Mather B, Republic and Tilden Mines. He retired in 1986. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and neighbors.

Arnold is survived by a daughter: Carol Holmgren of Ishpeming, a granddaughter: Amber Emanuelson of Marquette, great grandson: Tanner Linares of Marquette, sisters-in-law Phyllis Locke of Negaunee, Valetta Jo Locke of Benton, KY, along with several nieces and nephews. Arnold was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, a daughter: Nancy Emanuelson, twin brother: Donald, brothers: Harvey, Carl, Reino & Edwin, sisters: Vivian Asgaard, and Lila Mingori

Funeral Services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church at 11:00AM on Thursday, January 15th, with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 5:00PM until 7:00PM on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home as well as one hour prior to funeral services on Thursday at the church. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Smith, Steve Paavo, Larry Poutanen, Peter Durfee, Alvin Luokkala and Dean Harvey. Honorary Pallbearers are Arnold Durfee and Mark Emanuelson.
