Three Lakes- Arnold H. "Arnie" Nurmela, age 61, of Three Lakes (Spurr Twp) passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021, in Spurr Township.

Arnold was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on May 16, 1960, a son of the late Roland and Helen (Niemi) Nurmela. Arnie graduated from Westwood High School, Class of 1978.

Arnie worked as a heavy equipment operator working most recently for MD Contacting- L'Anse, he also had worked for Mead Paper, Longyear and several other logging companies in the area.

Arnie enjoyed everything outdoors, hunting, fishing, and 4-wheeling.

Arnie is survived by his wife Laura R. (Maki) Nurmela, whom he married on March 26, 1983, a daughter Amy (fiancée Brandon Nelson) Nurmela of North Lake, a son Bryan Nurmela of Three Lakes, 5 grandchildren; Carson, Riley, Ethan, Gavin, and Andrew, a brother Ralph (Michael) Nurmela of Florida, sister in law Debbie Nurmela and brother in law Jalmer Lakonen of Three Lakes along with several nieces and nephews.

Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Daniel Nurmela and a sister Arlene Lakonen.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm with food and refreshment available throughout. A service will follow at 3:00 pm with Paul Peterson officiating.
