Ishpeming – Arne S. Seppala, age 88, longtime resident of 255 S. Marigold St., Ishpeming Twp. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 while a resident at the Mather Nursing Center.


Arne was born April 7, 1924 in Toholampi, Finland the son of the late Toivo and Lempi (Tarvainen) Seppala. He was raised in Finland and served in the Finnish Army in the Finnish-Russian War serving for a total of 4 years. Arne moved to this country in the summer of 1950, first settling in Negaunee prior to moving to Ishpeming. Arne had worked as a Union Carpenter for many years.


Arne was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed Finnish Music, and sang in Finnish at many local funerals. Arne was very artistic enjoying painting and woodworking. Arne also passed his time by going fishing, an activity he truly loved.


Survivors include his wife Bertha of Ishpeming, a sister Eila Hurme of Lake Worth, FL, 2 grandchildren Mark Seppala and Liisa McBee, 3 great grandchildren, a niece, a nephew, along with numerous cousins locally and in Finland. He was preceded in death by his first wife Anna in 1975 and a son Matt in 2003.


The family will greet relatives and friends from 3 – 4pm on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 4:00pm on Saturday with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
