Spurr Twp – Arlene Marie Lakonen, age 73, passed away peacefully at home holding the hand of her granddaughter Breann on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, while also under the care of UP Home Health and Hospice.

Arlene was born to Roland and Helen (Niemi) Nurmela on June 12, 1947, in Negaunee. She was raised in the Michigamme area graduating from Michigamme High School with the class of 1965.

Arlene was united in marriage to Jalmer Lakonen in July of 1968. In her younger years she really enjoyed golfing. Most of all she loved being a full-time grandparent.

She is survived by her husband Jalmer, children, Anna (Chad) Zoglman of Green Bay, WI, and Jalmer (Randi) Lakonen III of Hortonville, WI, brothers, Arnold (Laura) Nurmela of Three Lakes, and Ralph (Michael) Nurmela of Florida, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Robert and Daniel Nurmela.

The family will greet relatives and friends to remember Jalmer and Arlene at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Champion on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 1:00 - 4:00 PM with food and refreshments available throughout this time. Graveside services will follow at 4:30 PM for Jalmer and Arlene at the Lakeview Cemetery in Michigamme.
