Ishpeming- Arlene F. Honkala, age 72 of 111 Bluff St. Apt 305 Ishpeming passed away Saturday May 24, 2014 at her residence while in the loving care of her family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Arlene was born August 21, 1941 in Negaunee to William & Saimi (Lyyski) Linna. She grew up in Republic, MI and was a graduate of Republic High School, class of 1960. She married William "Bill" Honkala in 1966. Arlene and Bill raised their children in their home in the Green Creek location of Ishpeming. Arlene worked for many years at the H.W. Gossard Company as a seamstress. She also worked as a nurses aide for UP Home Health and most recently had been a custodian at the Faith Lutheran Church.

Arlene was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church where she once belonged to the Bible study group for a number of years. She enjoyed writing letters, working on puzzles, picking blueberries, taking family vacations, and knitting & crocheting. She loved learning about antiques and collectibles and had a few collections of her own. Arlene most cherished time spent with her granddaughter Michelle.

Arlene is survived by 2 children, Julie (Brian Carlson) Honkala of Ishpeming and Jesse (Jennifer) Honkala of Montrose, MN, 2 sisters: Delores Thomas of Republic and Sandra (Rick) Travis of Republic, a brother Kenneth (Donna) Linna of Millbrook, AL, a granddaughter Michelle Marra and closest friend Kathy ("Nuz") Waters, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband William Honkala.

Arlene's family wishes to thank the many people involved in her care the past few months, including the staff at Marquette General Hospital and UP Home Health and Hospice. Also, special thanks to friends and family who have reached out to Arlene and her family during this difficult time.

Arrangements for a Memorial gathering will be announce at a later date.
