January 23, 1924 – March 29, 2018
Ishpeming- Anthony D. "Gigs" Gagliardi, age 94, lifelong Ishpeming resident, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Eastwood Nursing Center.
Anthony was born in Ishpeming on January 23, 1924 to the late Minnie (Valenzio) and Joseph Gagliardi. On December 9, 1944, he married Joanne Lindbom.
Gigs was the owner of The Roosevelt, a popular UP nightclub, for 25 years. He also owned Mr. G's Café on Canda Street. He was an avid fly fisherman, and served on the Board of Directors of the John D. Voelker Foundation of which he was one of the founding members.
Anthony loved the woods and his camp, and enjoyed cooking, hunting, cribbage, music, children and telling stories. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and a member of the Ishpeming Elks.
Anthony is survived by three children- Mary Jo (Martin) Murray of Greenbelt, Maryland, Kathryn Gagliardi of Ishpeming, Anthony J. Gagliardi of Reno, Nevada and Ishpeming. He and Joanne had twelve grandchildren- Christopher (Kelly) Murray, Michael (Anne) Murray, Martin John Murray, Joanna Kitto, Commander Michael J. Kitto, Margaret (Christopher) Davis, Kathryn D. Lind, Carissa (Rick) Alonso, Anthony J.D. Gagliardi, Lauren R. Byers, Jon Byers, Kristen (Michael) Inge, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Anthony was preceded in death by his wife Joanne and daughter, Linda Rose Byers. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Joseph Gagliardi, and sisters Teresa Suardini, Margaret Hannula, and Carmen Juidici.
Anthony's family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon on Monday April 30, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Memorial Mass will follow at 12:00 noon with Father Larry Van Damme as celebrant. A luncheon will follow in the K/D Hall. A private family burial will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery following the funeral luncheon.
The family requests, due to allergies, that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the John D. Voelker Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
