Ishpeming – Anna E. Gray, age 57 of 514 N. First St., Ishpeming passed away on Friday August 28, 2009 following an apparent heart attack.
Anna was born December 29, 1951 the daughter of the late Richard and Evelyn (Koski) Laksonen. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1970. She attended Northern Michigan University, receiving a bachelor's degree in secondary education, and english. Anna had worked as a substitute teacher in the Ishpeming Public Schools, at both the High School and C.L. Phelps for the past 28 years.
Anna was a devout Christian. Anna kept herself busy with many hobbies and activities including writing and reading poetry, which led to becoming a published poet, camping across the Upper Peninsula with her family, biking, tennis, cooking and baking, playing the harmonica, jewelry making, photography, berry picking, sewing, listening to music, watching her Detroit Tigers, and spending time with her family and pets.
Survivors include her husband of the past 35 years Larry S. Gray of Ishpeming, 3 children – Heather Gray of Ishpeming, Adam Gray of Marquette, and Samantha Gray of Marquette, 2 grandchildren - Alyssa and Hunter Gray of Ishpeming, 4 sisters – Martha Hardy of Texas, Mary Manning of Negaunee, Ruth Perucco of Negaunee, and Judy Johnson of Texas, 3 brothers – David Laksonen of Marquette, Richard (Lori) Laksonen of Ishpeming and Nathan (Juanita) Laksonen of Ishpeming, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Richard John Laksonen.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 – 6:00pm on Tuesday. Funeral services will follow at 6:00pm on Tuesday September 1, 2009 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Roger Kangas officiating. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
A potluck gathering to celebrate her life will follow the service at the Ishpeming VFW from 7 until 9pm.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Gray, John Leppanen, Paul Steinke, Joe Pelkola, and Bob Edwards.
