Obituary
Ishpeming Twp. – Angela D. Wigg, age 87, of 190 Marble St. Ishpeming Twp., MI, passed away on Thursday October 20, 2011 at Marquette General Hospital following a brief illness.
Angela was born August 26, 1924 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late Dominic and Catherine (Bertucci) Valela. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1942. In the 1950's Angela worked as a telephone switchboard operator for Michigan Bell, then went on to work as a secretary for the State Farm Insurance office in Ishpeming in the 1960's. In 1971 she was employed as a teachers aid, working in that capacity at the West Ishpeming and later the Diorite school until her retirement in 1989 from the NICE School district.
Angela was a lifelong Ishpeming area resident and a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She enjoyed time spent at her grandchildren's sporting events. She loved to play BINGO and visit the area casinos, along with her 39 trips to Las Vegas over the years.
Survivors include her husband Ronald Wigg of Ishpeming whom she married on May 2, 1981, a daughter Kathy (Bob) Merrill of Ishpeming, a son Mike (Kathie) Eliason of Ishpeming, 2 grandchildren – Heath (Teresa) Eliason of New Glarus, WI and Hayley (Matt) Pap of Verona, WI, a great granddaughter Emma Pap, a sister-in-law – Karen (Bill) Richards of Chicago, IL, nephews Dennis (Wendy) Manzoline of Ishpeming and a niece Kathy Manzoline of California. She was preceded in death by her first husband William A. Eliason in 1963, along with 2 sisters – Mary Manzoline and Connie Nacci.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, October 24, 2011 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10am until the time of services on Monday at St. John's. A luncheon will follow the Mass in the church hall. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bob Merrill, Heath Eliason, Dennis and Nick Manzoline.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. John's Catholic Church Memorial Fund.
