Republic – Andrew Matthew Jackola, age 97, former Republic resident, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the Menominee Care Center, Menominee, MI where he had been a resident since February of 2003.
Andrew was born October 22, 1910 in Republic, the son of the late Oscar and Anna (Kytola) Jackola. He worked at the Blueberry Mine and for many years and as a bus driver for the Republic-Michigamme School District. Andrew also was a volunteer firefighter for the Republic Fire Department. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time. Andrew was a life long area resident and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming.
Survivors include his daughter Janet (Eugene) Vadnais of Menomonee, MI, 6 Grandchildren: Kelly (John) Tamkun, Kevin Vadnais, Kurt Vadnais, Robert (Janice) Jackola, Dwanye (Tina) Jackola & Kenneth (Eva) Jackola, 10 Great Grandchildren: Kasey, & Lindsey Tamkun, Janell, Justin & Jenna Jackola, Keaton & Keegan Jackola, and Jonathon, Conan and Rachel Jackola along with several nieces and nephews. Andrew was preceded in death by his wife Elaine in April of 1998, a son John Jackola and 4 sisters: Elizabeth, Eva, Anna, and Jennie.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 12:30 until 1:30PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:30PM at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Rev Scott Lindenberg to officiate. Interment will be at Northland Chapel Gardens in Negaunee Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Republic United Methodist Church or to the Wesley United Methodist Church.
