Ishpeming – Andrew A. DellAngelo, age 89, of 225 S. Pansy St., Ishpeming, MI passed away on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at the Teal Lake Senior Living Community where he had resided for the past week. He had been under the care of his family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice at the time of his death.
Andy was born March 3, 1927 in Ishpeming, MI the son of Charles and Orsolina (Malvasio) DellAngelo. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1945. Andy served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II. He married Dorothy Mitchell on Sept. 18, 1948 and had resided in Ishpeming for most of their married life. Andy had worked for the United States Postal Service for 30+ years at both the Ishpeming and Negaunee Post Offices, retiring as Postmaster at the Ishpeming Post Office.
Andy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he ushered for many years. He was also a longtime member of the Ishpeming Elks Club and the Wawonowin Country Club where he enjoyed golfing. Andy and Dorothy had wintered in the south for 15 years.
Andy is survived by two sons: Michael (Lynn) DellAngelo of Dallas, TX and Dr. Robert (Kathy) DellAngelo of Michigamme, 5 grandchildren: Michelle Gutermuth of Houston, TX, Scott (Amber) DellAngelo of Chicago, IL, Alison (Matt) Bakken of Minneapolis, Leslie (Andrew) Sander of Minneapolis and Drs. Katie (Brian) Turner of Marquette, 9 great grandchildren: Michaela Gutermuth, Lauren & Brandon DellAngelo, Cora & Vinn Bakken, Sophie & Charles Sander, and Boden & Jack Turner, brother's-in-law - Anthony Certo of Ishpeming and Louis (Mary Ann) Mitchell of Negaunee, sister-in-law Lucille DellAngelo along with numerous nieces and nephews. Andy was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2012.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10am – 11am on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Dan Moll to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery Columbarium. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall.
