Republic- Amber Nicole Kulju (Amb ohh), age 18, Republic resident passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Marquette General Hospital after sustaining injuries from an automobile accident.
Amber was born in Ishpeming on July 16, 1990, the daughter of Jeffrey Kulju and Stacey Paquette of Republic. She was a 2008 graduate of Republic-Michigamme High School graduating with honors and was currently attending Northern Michigan University for Cosmetology. She enjoyed playing basketball in high school where her nickname was "Scooby," she was a member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, assisted seniors through the ASL Program, was a member of the High School Choir, and extremely loved music. She enjoyed giving haircuts and used her sister as a 'guinea pig,' giving Teresa the nickname Freno. Amber was very style conscious always wanting the name brand clothes, "The ones with the big price tags" so her dad says.
Amber is survived by her parents Jeffrey and Stacey of Republic, a sister Teresa Kulju of Republic, her boyfriend Ryan Finley of Negaunee, paternal grandmother Irene Arpiainen of Republic, maternal grandmother Doris Paquette of Republic, aunts and uncles: Dolores (Al) Feifarek of Wisconsin Rapids, Bob (Debbie) Bengtson of Republic, Curt (Sherry) Kulju of Republic, Trudy (Ken) Seppanen of Michigamme, Yvonne Paquette of Republic, Larry Paquette of Republic, Willard Paquette of Sheldon, IA, Dennis Paquette of Calumet, many cousins including Nicole (Randy) Couveau of Ishpeming and their children Anthony & Alyssa, and Michelle Kulju of Ishpeming, and a special friend Jimmer Beaumont along with many friends and classmates. Amber was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Herman Kulju, maternal grandfather Willard Paquette, cousins: Melissa Kulju, Jason Sirtola, Cory Wickingson, and numerous aunts and uncles. Amber also leaves behind her dog "Rocky."
Amber was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Rev. Katherine Finegan officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
