Ishpeming- Allen R. Basto, age 72 of 3325 Co. Rd. PD Ishpeming (Tilden Twp.) passed away Tuesday February 27, 2018 at his home.

Allen was born July 6, 1945 in Laurium, MI to the late Eino and Ruth (Keckonen) Basto. Al moved to Ishpeming and worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 33 years retiring as a shovel operator from the Empire Mine.

Al enjoyed taking rides, visiting with friends, playing cards and trips to casinos around the U.P. He and his late wife Karen also would try and find good deals at rummage sales, collecting antiques.

Al is survived by three children: Richard Basto of Harrisburg, PA, Laurie M. Carlson of Ishpeming and Lisa A. (finance Gary Emanuelson) Basto of Ishpeming, three grandchildren: Haley Carlson, Nicholas Carlson and Chelsey Raymond, a brother Carl (Fay) Basto of Negaunee, a nephew Brian Basto along with other nieces, nephews, brothers in law, and sisters in law. Al was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Karen in 2016.

Al's family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday March 10, 2018 from 11:00am-12:00 noon at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home where a prayer services will be held at 12:00 noon with Fr. Larry Van Damme officiating.

A luncheon will follow the service at K/D Hall located at St. Johns Church in Ishpeming.
