Ishpeming – Alice Marie "Babe" St. Andre, age 68, formerly of Sunnyside Estates passed away on Sunday December 14, 2008 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Twp. while under the care of the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.


Alice was born August 8, 1940 in Ishpeming to the late Adelord and Elizabeth (Poirier) St. Andre. Alice was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1958. She worked as a meat wrapper at the Miracle Market IGA in Ishpeming for 27 years and then at Econo Foods in Marquette for 14 years retiring in 2002. She was a former member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Babe was a very athletic lady, and for 30+ years was active in the Softball and Horseshoe leagues in Ishpeming and Negaunee.

Survivors include 2 sisters – Patricia (John) Miller of Las Vegas, NV and Ellen Helgren of Ishpemnig, 4 nieces – Renee Herbert of Safford, AZ, Sheri Wicket of Las Vegas, NV, Elizabeth Larson of Louisville, KY, and Sue Bergren of Georgetown, OH, 2 nephews – Michael Helgren of Ishpeming and John A. Miller of Las Vegas, NV, a special cousin and friend Mary Ann St. Andre and special friends Kathie Carlson and Kay Ghiardi. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law George R. Helgren.


Honoring Alice's wishes there will be no services at this time, a graveside inurnment service will take place in the spring at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
