Ishpeming – Alice L. Nelson, age 87, longtime resident of 301 Elm St., Ishpeming, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Mather Nursing Center where she had been a resident since this past December.


Alice was born January 8, 1925 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late Alice (Quayle) and George Lampshire, who was killed in the 1926 Barnes-Hecker Mine disaster. Alice was raised in Ishpeming by her mother and step-father George Lawson and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1942. Alice was a homemaker who enjoyed her family. Alice always kept up to date on her granddaughter and recently her great grandchildren's sporting events. She will be remembered for her cooking along with passing time by reading, talking on the phone or watching TV.


Survivors include a daughter Nancy Kelly of Ishpeming, a brother Kenny (Jean) Lawson, a granddaughter Robbie Jo (Dan) Fezatt of Negaunee, two great grandchildren – Evan and Hailey Fezatt, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Nelson and a brother Robert "Bra" Lawson.


A private family inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
