Ishpeming – Alice M. Jacobson, age 96 formerly of 715 Elliott St., Ishpeming passed away on Friday August 15, 2008 at the Woodland Assisted Living in Negaunee while under the care of her family and Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Alice was born November 14, 1911 in Allouez, MI the daughter of the late Frederick and Anna (Domagolski) Neuman. Alice was a graduate of the Palmer High School. Alice went on to work as a waitress at the Huron Mountain Club, then as a waitress and hostess at the Mather Inn in Ishpeming. She had also worked as a seamstress at the H.W. Gossard Co. and as a sales clerk at Johnson's Drug Store. She and her late husband also owned and operated Harry's Sporting Goods, and the Western Auto Store in Ishpeming.
Alice was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, where she had been active in the WELCA, as a member of the Patience Circle. She had taught Sunday School, was part of the Women's Missionary Society, the Altar Guild, and the Quilting Group. Alice enjoyed knitting and sewing.
Survivors include a daughter Marcia (David) Mahn of Newberry, a son James (Deborah) Jacobson of Marquette, grandchildren – Debra (Joseph) Hilliard of McMillan, Lisa (David) Dake of Newberry, Jamie (Richard) Rhoads of Ishpeming, and Sarah Jacobson of Negaunee, great grandchildren – Zachary Hilliard, Erica Hilliard, Morgan Rhoads, and Delanie Rhoads, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband E. Harry Jacobson, and her brothers and sisters – Clemens Newman, Joseph Newman, George Newman, Robert Newman, Frederick Newman, Elizabeth Larson, Dorothy Allen, Agnes Newman and Mary Gocan.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am until 11:00am on Thursday August 21, 2008 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday August 21, 2008 at the Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Warren Geier to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dave Dake, Jos Hilliard, Zach Hilliard and Rick Rhoads.
