Ishpeming Twp- Alice "Abbie" E. Certo, age 81 of 155 N. Lilac St. Ishpeming, passed away Wednesday, January 06, 2010 at the Marquette General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past 8 days.
Abbie was born April 11, 1928 in Negaunee to Leslie & Anne (Pietro) Mitchell. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1946. Abbie worked at the H.W. Gossard Company and later as a homemaker. She was married to Anthony Certo for 61 years.
Abbie was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Ishpeming. She loved to trout fish, bowl, play Bingo and enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren & great grandchildren. Abbie was a former member of the Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Abbie is survived by her husband, Anthony, 3 children: Jackie (Harold) LeDuc of Ishpeming, Carolyn (Don) Szenina of Ishpeming and Anthony (Bev) Certo Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren: Melanie (Aaron) Nelson, Kim (Rob) Soyring, Allan (Jen) Certo, Julie Szenina, Candace LeDuc, Paula (Rick) Ritari, Travis (Danielle) Certo, & Nick Certo, great grandchildren:Samuel Lopez, Logan Soyring, Baby Soyring (due in March), Maggie Ritari, T.J., Alex and Payten Certo, 2 sisters: Jane Johnson of Green Bay, WI and Dorothy (Andy) Dellangelo of Ishpeming, a brother Louie (Maryann) Mitchell of Ishpeming along with many nieces and nephews. Abbie was preceded in death by her parents, step father Alfred Tresedder, 2 sisters: Mary Grasso and Marguerite Kowalski and a brother Ben Mitchell.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00am on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:30 until the time of service at 11:00am.
