Marquette – Alfred "Al" F. St.Amour, age 83, former Ishpeming resident, of 230 Northwoods Rd. Apt #6, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at his home.
Al was born January 17, 1925 the son of the late Frank and Beatrice (Holm) St.Amour in Munising. He attended the Marquette area schools and enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. Al faithfully served our country during WWII and Guam. He earned numerous decorations including the Good Conduct Medal, the American Service Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal. Corporal Alfred F. St.Amour of the 55th Reconnaissance Squadron was honorably discharged from the United States Army on January 9, 1946.
Al married Jean Sandstrom in 1944. They have been life long area residents and more recently moved to Marquette. Al spent several years as the owner of Quality TV and Appliances in Ishpeming and over 20 years as the owner of Hebbard-Rambler Sales. He retired in the mid 1970's after over 30 years in auto business. After retirement, Alfred worked at his son's business, Saint's Auto Body. Al enjoyed woodworking in his spare time and going to his cottage on Lake Michigamme. In his earlier years, Al enjoyed selling and racing snowmobiles. He and his wife Jean wintered for many years in Florida.
Al is survived by his wife: Jean (Sandstrom) St.Amour, three sons: Robert "Butch" (Jane) St.Amour of Ishpeming, MI., Terry (Kathryn) St.Amour of Grand Blanc, MI., David (Connie) St.Amour of Negaunee, MI., 7 Grandchildren: Amy (Steve) Perry, Mitchell St.Amour, Michelle St.Amour, Bradley St.Amour, Nickolas St.Amour, Dana Stearns, & Jessica (fiance Brad Winchester) St.Amour, 3 Great grandchildren: Kira Perry, Tristan Stearns, & Chloe Perry, 2 Step-grandchildren: Alana (David) Carrott & Lora (Brandon) Holm, a step-great granddaughter Keira Holm, along with several nieces and nephews. Al is preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Clarence St.Amour.
A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00PM on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives from 4:00PM until the time of services on Saturday, at the funeral home. The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380 will have a veteran's flag presentation following the service. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery on Monday, April 7, 2008.
Honorary pallbearers will be Al's grandchildren.
