Ishpeming, MI - Alfred R. "Freddy" Brouillette, 78, of 306 S. Second St. Ishpeming, MI, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, while in the loving care of his family and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Alfred was born at the Calumet Hospital on December 11, 1943, a son of the late Martha Shirley (McCabe) and Alfred Romeo Brouillette. He attended the Calumet High School until his enlistment in the US Army in 1960, serving during the Vietnam Era in Germany and other countries until his honorable discharge in 1964. He married Theresa Jokela on Nov. 14, 1964, in Calumet. Alfred also served in the Michigan National Guard with the 107th Engineering Battalion in Ishpeming for 19 years. Freddy graduated from the Westwood High School in 1975, via the Night School Program.
Freddy's work career started in the Copper Mines in Calumet in the mid- 1960's. He moved to Inkster and Ypsilanti for work from 1966 - 1969. In the spring of 1969, he began his career with the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. first at the Mather B Mine and then moved to the Empire Mine, working mainly as a Shovel Operator, retiring in 2006. Following his "retirement" he became a bus driver for the Ishpeming Public Schools for 10 years, a job Freddy truly loved, retiring in 2021 due to his health.
Alfred was a member of the Ishpeming VFW Post #4573, and the Greenwood Lillian Larson American Legion Post #114. He had a passion for old cars, car shows along with old movies. Freddy attended the Iola, WI Car Show and Swap Meet every year.
Survivors include his wife Theresa R. Brouillette of Ishpeming; three sons Kevin "Soopy" (Laura) Brouillette of Ishpeming; Brent (Stacey) Brouillette of Hazel Green, AL; Ryan (Debbie) Brouillette of Ishpeming; a brother, Bryon Brouillette of Calumet; sisters-in-law - Marilyn Brouillette of Laurium; Paula (Bruce) Simula of Ahmeek; an Aunt - Lyn (Richard) Rolain of Ishpeming; grandchildren - Reid, Randy (Jessica), Hoakan (Jillian), Hunter (Alexyss), Chelsey (Shane) and Jordann (Jay); great grandson, Nathan; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred R., his mother, Shirley (McCabe) who passed when he was a young child, and his stepmother, Carolyn; sisters - Vivianne and Cheryl and a brother Glenn.
Interment will take place on Saturday June 10, 2023 at 12:00pm at the Ishpeming Columbarium with Military Honors to be accorded by the U.P. Funeral Honors Team. A celebration of Freddy's life will follow from 1:00 - 4:00PM on Saturday at the Greenwood American Legion Post #114.
