Ishpeming- Albert "Speedy" Lewis of 128 Salisbury St, Ishpeming, MI passed away at UP Health Systems the afternoon of Saturday March 7 th after a brief illness. He passed peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones.
Albert was born in Ironton, Ohio on July 18 th , 1942 to the late Joseph and Alma (Purnell) Lewis. He attended the Ironton School Systems until 8 th grade when he left school to help support his family. He joined the army in 1964, where he met his wife Rose Marie Armitage. They were married in 1965 and he moved to his wife's hometown of Ishpeming, MI to raise their family.
He worked with CCI Mining at various mines for nearly 30 years before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed telling stories, making people laugh, and helping others. He was always there night or day ready to help when needed. He also loved Florida where he and Rose lived in for a short time. He was very proud that he was able to come out of retirement to work at Ideal Aluminum where he ran circles around all the guys working there.
He is survived by his children Gina Lewis, Rebecca (Vince) Swenor, Annette (Scott) Hyttinen, Mark Lewis, and Maria (Matt) Fiereck. His grandchildren Jessica Hastings, Jennifer Vaughan, Jonathon Hastings, Chace Swenor, Lance Swenor, Trinity Hyttinen, Gabe Hyttinen, Zachary Lewis, Jade Lewis, Teia Foley, and Mason Fiereck. His great grandchildren Davey Vaughan, Lusiel Vaughan, Albert Vaughan, Ava Adams, and Brennick Bonner. His siblings Alma Jean Angel, Bobby Joe Lewis and several beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Rose, his parents, in-laws John and Rose Armitage, sister Josa Lee (Lewis) Thibodaux Corbin, "son" James "Jimmer" Hastings, granddaughter Cami Hyttinen and several nieces and nephews.
Albert's family will greet relatives and friends for a celebration of his life at the Ishpeming VFW on Tuesday March 10, 2020 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm.
